Residence for tuition purposes:
To establish your Georgia Residence for the purpose of tuition, it is recommended that you pick up and complete the Petition for Georgia Residence Classification. Please read the instructions completely.
Basic qualifications:
To establish your Georgia residence, you must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen who has been physically present in the State for at least one year, and you must be able to provide convincing evidence that your intent for the entire year has been to establish a permanent residence in the state. You must also be financially independent, if your parents are not Georgia residents.

Member of the Military -- If you are a member of the U.S. military stationed in Georgia on active duty, unless you are assigned for educational purposes to a state-supported institution of higher education, you may be exempt from non-resident tuition. You must provide a copy of your orders assigning you to a Georgia Military Installation and I.D. Card.
Spouse or Other Dependents of Military Personnel -- You are exempt from payment of the nonresident tuition fee if you are a spouse or a natural or adopted child or stepchild who is a dependent of a member of the U.S. military stationed in Georgia on active duty. You must provide a copy of the orders assigning your sponsor to a Georgia Military Installation and a copy of your Dependent I.D. card.
Recently separated or retired military - You may be granted a nonrenewable one-year waiver of out of state tuition if you enroll at AASU within 12 months of date of separation from active duty service. Full-Time Teachers in the public schools of Georgia or in the programs of the State Board of Technical and Adult Education and their dependent children--Teachers employed full-time on military bases in Georgia shall also qualify for this waiver. A copy of the employees contract is required.
Full-Time employees of the University System of Georgia, their spouses, and their dependent children--A copy of the employees contract is required.
